Keep Your Heart
Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life.
Proverbs 4:23 ESV
Being reminded the importance of guarding my heart. In the physical realm, the heart is the keeper of life. It’s the heart’s job to keep blood pumping to our bodies, carrying with it the oxygen we need, and cleaning out the excess. If your heart is broken you are in pretty big trouble.Same concept works in the spiritual realm. Proverbs states that the ‘well springs’ of life come from our hearts. In other words, our heart is at the core of who we are. The state of our hearts will impact our lives, in success and failure. Luke 6: 45 says, ‘Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.’ You know so much about a person from how they speak. It is a reflection of who they truly are.
In this season in particular I’m beginning to understand more clearly how important it is for my heart to be healthy and clear of debris. It doesn’t matter what I do, how I do it, why it’s ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, what matters is the state of my heart. If she’s pumping out life, the rest will work itself out.
Take the time today to search your heart. Is it healthy? What kind of thoughts are you pumping out? Do they bring life or death? Seek the Lord and ask Him to heal what’s broken, and give you His perspective.
